Hey yo' all! I thought you might be interested to know why are barns usually painted red?
Answer: Centuries ago, European farmers used a type of oil-paint, which comes from linseed. It wasn't just a long-lasting paint, but it dried and hardened fast. Now, why is it red? The answer is ferrous-oxide, or otherwise known plain ol' rust. Added to the oil-mixture, it shielded the wood from moss, mold and many fungi, protecting the barn from decaying. How is that for a piece of trivia?
