Welcome to the Red Barn Brewing Co. Blog Site.
My attempt is to document the growth of my brewery from my backyard to yours. Hope you enjoy the content and someday the beer.
Hey yo' all! I thought you might be interested to know why are barns usually painted red? Answer: Centuries ago, European farmers used a type of oil-paint, which comes from linseed. It wasn't just a long-lasting paint, but it dried and hardened fast. Now, why is it red? The answer is ferrous-oxide, or otherwise known plain ol' rust. Added to the oil-mixture, it shielded the wood from moss, mold and many fungi, protecting the barn from decaying. How is that for a piece of trivia?
I watched a show about paint on History Channel last night so that's how I learnt about red barns and other interesting paint related things. If you want to know more, go to http://people.howstuffworks.com/question635.htm
